Natural Anti-Perspirant and Deodorant and Low-Carb, Grain-Free Coconut Recipes

This week, Kelly the Kitchen Kop is gathering delicious recipes that highlight the many uses of coconut. Since I'm a big fan of coconut and have posted many recipes here, I'll go ahead and share (again) my favorites and add a few new ones as well!

I'm going to share my recipe for homemade deodorant using coconut oil. Remember, we should never put anything on our bodies that we wouldn't put into our mouth! This deodorant works amazingly well and is a frugal choice that is allergen, alluminum, and chemical-free. A little goes a long way with this, so don't glob it under your arms. It really works. I'm not sure exactly why, but when I find out I'll post about it!

Coconut Deodorant

1/2 cup of virgin coconut oil (don't be put off by the expensive prices in the store, go here for the best deal!)
4-5 drops lavender oil
4-5 drops tea tree oil

That's it! I apply a thin layer and everything's good, all day long!

The coconut deodorant is a great idea! I'll have to try it out.

I agree - I'm going to try the deoderant, too. It doesn't leave grease stains on your clothes?

Betsy & Jenny,

It works like a charm, but you do need to be careful depending upon the fabric you are wearing; grease stains do pose potential problems, but only if you're actually applying globs and globs of the deoderant when your clothes are on.

I use a very thin layer before I get my shirt on...a very thin layer is all you need, believe it or not!

I've never had a problem with stains because when the coconut oil's in its semisolid state, it's very easy to work with :)

HTH,
Carrie

Hello Carrie T! Coconut oil for deodorants? Absolutely!

I stopped using commercial deodorants about a decade ago but when I discovered coconut oil, I now have a perfectly good reason to "deodorize" again.

I use "only" virgin coconut oil (VCO). I use about half a teaspoon for each underarm. Works great!

I am addicted to coconut oil, after reading "The Coconut Oil Miracle". I practice a pretty straight macrobiotic way of life, but I have to say, that coconut oil is amazing. I no longer use my Retin A (after 11 faithful years), because coconut oil has somehow proven to be 100 times better. I use a little on my face every night. In addition, it is the only oil I use both on my body and in my kitchen. Three tablespoons a day internally or externally will do wonders for you. As for using it as a deoderant - it absolutely works. And I was really skeptical about that, until I tried it. I will never use a traditional deoderant again (even though I was using the relatively chemical-free Liquid Rock). I have no idea how coconut oil works as a deoderant, but believe me, it does. No stink, no odor, no greasy residue. It is a phenomenal product on so many levels. I suggest the above referenced book for anyone who is doubting the effects of coconut oil. You need to make sure it is Extra Virgin when purchasing. Dana Vigilante
